are you in complete control of your life
if you're at the mercy of some external
substance like alcohol marijuana things
like that I would say no because you're
giving up your state your Clarity your
control over to this other substance um
you're inhibiting yourself numbing
yourself so that you don't feel the pain
of the moment which I I can deeply
understand but it can lead to
devastating effects in your
life I'm not saying that I can help you
change this overnight but as part of
this words and wisdom series I really
think that
incorporating powerful words into your
vocabulary and really internalizing
these words will kind of incorporate
them into your personality and help you
gain control over your life um the first
word in the series was sovereignty and
that's the word I'll be going over today
and as part of the series so basically I
make a video about the the word that I'm
choosing for the week maybe in the
future I you guys can help me um pick
the
word maybe through some kind of poll or
something but as a followup to the
initial introduction of the word I want
to share a story from my life to to
you so sovereignty I chose it as as the
first word because it's a really
important
um concept to me one of my ultimate
goals in life is to have complete
sovereignty over just myself um that
means self-control over things that I
don't want want to do control over um
reaching the goals that I want to
achieve in life and being able like for
example being able to express myself the
way I want to express
myself and
marijuana that's what I use that as the
example because in the past I was a very
heavy user of marijuana and that's
because it just quieted the thoughts in
my mind and they're constantly just I I
have notebooks and note taking apps just
full of the random like ideas
and I don't know it maybe this is normal
for everybody but for me getting high
would allow those thoughts to become
quiet and as I've gotten older I've
realized that not only is that not a
like those lots are uh kind of like my
advantage I have a lot of ideas and the
problem is sorting through them and
finding ones that are worth holding on
to and that's how I got onto this track
of articulacy I heard this quote from
from uh Jordan Peterson where he said
that fluent
people are able to basically come up
with like hundreds of words uh based for
a particular prompt like let's say for
example list the number of uh words you
can think of that start with the letter
T and um are four letters long and an a
truly fluent articulate person could
come up with many many of these words
whereas someone who is not is unable to
well he attributed this to like high IQ
I personally do not believe this I think
that if you if you were blessed enough
to be born like an average person these
things are things that can be trained
and honed over time so that's what what
I want to prove here and um with this
word sovereignty and with just
incorporating it into my vocabulary
internalizing it uh as the first word
hopefully it can help me manifest the
state of sovereignty in my life and
hopefully um you can as
well so back on track here um I was
smoking marijuana heavily
and it it really was just a straight up
detriment to my
life I would just pretty much do things
that wasted time all day because I
didn't have any thoughts negative
thoughts to doing degenerate things um I
I could be vulgar and list all the
things that I did but that's that's in
the past and now I'm focused on being
able to express myself clearly the way I
want to so what what I began to figure
out about the thoughts in my mind um
that are just always there is that you
everyone has a bunch of voices in their
mind I hope but the difficulty is being
able to choose the ones that Express how
you express your values the the TR
values that you hold near and dear to
you
so okay I'm I'm having an episode of
those thoughts right now and it's it's
difficult to grab onto the ones the
threads that you want to follow
right and as someone with ADHD it's very
difficult to discern which ones to to
grab hold of because there's so many and
that's where the practice comes in so
pretty much you have to try to hold on
to that train of thought for as long as
possible and that is only possible
through consistent consistent practice
and I've only done this for been doing
this for about a couple weeks now and I
can tell you that I feel a dramatic
difference in my ability to hold on to
that thread of of thought that train of
thought and that that's just reinforcing
that idea in my head that anyone can do
this um before before this before these
past two weeks I I remember being on a
podcast um culture of code podcast and I
was embarrassed of how I performed on
that podcast the way I spoke I was
stuttering every other word I was
pausing all the time and it was just
difficult for me to coherently speak
with this person that I've been
preparing for for week I didn't really
prepare that much I just um had a few
questions in mind and I would rehearse
it with my wife or
something and after watching that video
it truly clicked to me that I this is
something I need to work
on
and to me this is an aspect of the
sovereignty I want in my life um if you
want to leave a comment telling me what
you want control in your life what you
would like more control over um I would
like to hear I would like to hear it um
thanks for watching today see you next
