hey since you clicked on this video i'm
going to go out on a limb here and say
that you're trying to dip your toes into
programming with cs50 so since you want
to be a programmer i'm just going to go
ahead and just tell you straight up that
cs50 is worth it to take i will take it
if i were you
and
if that's all you wanted from this video
then by all means go take cs50 but i
would highly recommend that you watch to
the end to see why you should take cs50
and how it helps your career and what a
career with cs50 could look like say a
cs50 is a great course to take but
computer science the industry has a lot
of different sides to it
so i've covered that a lot on this
channel
and it's very important to understand
the computer science industry as well as
the actual computer science basics as
well so full disclosure cs50 is a course
that's gonna take you maybe up to two
months maybe three
depending on how devoted you are to
actually putting aside time to taking
the courses and they are entertaining
but it wants to stress that it is a
start
an example i'm going to show you my own
career progression
and
then model yours your potential one off
of that
over the course of about six years
these are the steps that i took i took a
few basic computer science courses at uh
college and then dropped out
then i took free code camp that's why i
specialized in web development
then i did some freelance no i built a
portfolio actually
and then i started freelancing
then i took my first full-time job
and then i took cs50 as part of an
apprenticeship so you can clearly see
here that it took cs50 after i took my
first full-time job
what but i think that illustrates two
points so first of all i think i can
better analyze whether cs50 is a good
course or not to take for someone who
wants a programming career because i
mean i i already have one
and clearly i thought it was worth
taking even after all that computer
science stuff that i already had under
my belt
so for you your pyramid could easily
look like this cs50
then
some kind of specialization web dev
mobile whatever
um then build a portfolio go to network
etc and then get hired that could easily
be what your path could look like the
same way the few basic cs courses that i
took in college sped up my progression
with web development
i think that cs50 could do the same for
you at this point you might be thinking
like how important really is that
foundation that foundational knowledge
well i mean if we take out the
foundation of this pyramid then you're
just going straight into specialization
so i'm not gonna say it's impossible
i've seen it i've seen it done before
it's just rarely done
uh successfully and these there are a
lot of people online trying to do that
right now they're just jumping straight
into the specialization they like make a
template project from a
tutorial or whatever
they don't really know how they built
that tutorial project they get
frustrated whenever they don't get these
jobs that they apply to they apply to a
bunch of different jobs
um and these people are the vocal
majority
so it's going to look like the i.t
industry is very saturated search online
but if you put time and effort into it
you'll find out that it's not that
saturated you just have to learn how to
build a network build a portfolio and if
you need a job yesterday
then maybe skip it go straight to
specialization but really try your
hardest and most importantly have
patience
that's going to be key here because it's
not going to be
a get rich quick scheme check out one of
