me which was I was diagnosed with autism
this is going to be an unusual video
actually no I don't think this is going
to be interesting at all for two reasons
first of all I don't really believe in
the evaluation system as I used to I'll
go into that a bit later second reason
is that I feel like some of his
reasoning is a bit dangerous here
especially for young men or young people
in general growing
up so um first of all I want to explain
the part where I don't believe in the
evaluation system
anymore so as some as some context I
have a son who's he's almost he's
turning three in a couple weeks actually
and he is on the Spectrum I mean I've
we've clearly clear we've clearly been
able to identify that he is somewhere on
the Spectrum uh we've got him diagnosed
and everything and we just got admitted
into a preschool that will give him some
extra help
um I feel like a lot of parents will be
hesitant to do that but I as someone
with some neuro neurod
divergency uh I feel like it's important
that he gets the tools that he needs to
to
succeed and um because I don't want what
I'm going to be talking about in the
second part and but before that I want
to continue about the discussion about
the uh evaluation system at every point
in the system I'm not going to say I'm
the most moral person but I do genuinely
believe
my son is on the Spectrum from what I
what I have observed of
him
but the way that they that the
evaluations worked from beginning to end
I mean honestly I could have manipulated
every point of the way to have the
outcome that I wanted and I mean I don't
think a lot of people are willing to
hear this or they don't really
understand the things that lead up to
people being diagnosed and just take a
doctor's word for um what it is I guess
I mean the these systems can be
manipulated really easily and I mean
there's a lot of bias for my opinion in
the entire process especially um if
you're a minor and your parents come in
with the preconceived notion that you
have ADHD or you have autism or whatever
they can really push for that diagnosis
and um I mean what's the doctor going to
do right I mean if the if a lot of the
signs do point there it's so ambiguous
in in the first
place it's it's not that difficult for
them to shift their perspective and say
like oh maybe this person is a little
bit
whatever and yeah that leads to the
second part here where I I believe
Jack's um reasoning about for example
when he said that he can take himself a
little bit easier uh I mean give himself
a little bit more slack in some areas is
because basically now he identifies as
an autistic person and I think this is
the danger here
because I don't think it's meant to be
something like an identity that you can
uh you would want to limit or cap
yourself in certain areas because of
this identity let's say for example I uh
began I took on the identity of a dwarf
and I only was doing Dwarven things
right that
would I limit myself from doing human
things because I now I guess identify as
a dwarf that's I don't believe that
that's the case I think I should still
be shooting for the same things in
pretty much every area with pretty much
disregard to what I identify with like
what a thought type I identify with
neural type I
guess uh and this is something I really
struggled with whenever I got diagnosed
with ADHD because I was pretty immature
at the time I mean honestly I did answer
the
questions as truthfully as possible but
even then I I mean if someone really
wanted to get a prescription to these
ADHD drugs they could easily just say
whatever they want to say on the
documents and get the and get the
prescription so I mean I take those
diagnoses with a grain of sand as well
but yeah after the diagnosis I really
had trouble not identifying with this
condition uh not not it's not even
Condition it's a just a way of thinking
a way of being
and I found myself connecting my
different activities and things that I I
do to this ADHD
whenever I don't want to think like that
then I'm just constraining myself within
the bounds of this ADHD world where I am
ADHD and that's my go-to excuse for
everything I I I don't think that's a
good way to
live and uh yeah that's my rant for
today see you next time
