How to escape frontend dev

so you're a frontend developer or an
aspiring frontend developer and you
might be worried that AI is going to
take your job or that you're being
pigeon hold into front end and you don't
want to be in that state for the rest of
your life or even worse you could be a
full stack developer who is facing
overwhelming expectations that's why I
want to help you navigate your career to
the next goalpost to something more like
traditional backend engineering because
through my own experience I've been able
to go from front end to the secret path
to backend Eng engineering and now i'
I've specialized in security we're also
going to talk about how you can gain the
skills and stories needed to land and
succeed in interviews and how you can
Market yourself to get more interviews
in the first place how am I so sure of
this like I said before I've been in the
industry for about 6 years now and I
have absolutely no degree and I've seen
I've seen these things happen to other
people and I've done it myself now to
get straight to it yeah I think AI is
going to hit front end development the
hardest out of any of the Cs industry uh
roles and and even though I'm grateful
that front end development got me into
the industry I've really felt this deep
uncomfortableness ever since my first
development to critique uh cycle with
front end development you're constantly
exposed to subjectiveness and what
people want in your uh final product
compared to the designs and sometimes
you get things that are asked of you
that are just unfeasible for your team
for example a Founder could ask you to
design uh chat gbt and and then whenever
he looks at it or they look at it they
they'll ask you where the AGI is there's
no other area of software that
experiences this stuff like with numbers
you just get numbers with but with these
designs it's it's like the wild Quest so
I'm going to assume that you already
know that you have to practice leak code
you can just go to leak code.com and
practice some questions there and even
learn some system design and another
thing we're going to ignore is people
management so I'm not going to talk
about management
I'm just going to talk about the most
tech forward role that I can think of
that can get you from front-end
development to backend or some other
kind of non-front end development so the
secret path is going to be data and
analytics because I mean from my
experience with it whenever you're
working with the front end you're
normally putting together these
components and it it's pretty redundant
but whenever you're working uh but you
also know code and you can you have
demonstrated the ability to learn code
and with data and analytics you just
need to be able to learn some SQL and
then you can combine that SQL knowledge
or inquery or something in order to make
more designs but out of numbers and this
can be very valuable for corporations or
small companies even I used to work at a
small construction company well
relatively small they had they took a
lot of value from the charts and graphs
that we were able to create from their
financial numbers and things like that
like I guess get that front end can also
deal with queries and things like that
as well but you won't be dealing with
the same amounts of data and you won't
have to run you won't be running the
same scale of problems when it comes to
data as a backend engineer as a front
end engineer so if you're interested
what is a career path look like for this
secret path you go from front-end
engineering that's what I did to and you
jump to some kind of no. JS shop and you
can dabble into backend I I I literally
took on a backend role as a front
frontend engineer and it did take some
getting used to but eventually you get
the hang of imple implementing different
API end points and things like that but
it was really the data and analytics
work that I did that helped me get into
the mindset of handling large sets of
data what are some good ways to Market
yourself here this is a highly
subjective topic and I'm just going to
have to say it but I really think that
the full stack developer role or the
full stack engineer is it's not a good
look to have on a resume because first
of all it indicates to your future
employer that you're willing to take on
more work than is NE is then you should
be taking on not because it's too much
of a workload or anything but the
expectations of the knowledge of someone
with a full stack development role is
really wide and they might hard press
you to demonstrate all the skills that
are required of a fullstack developer so
you You' have to know how to deploy your
application how to to uh write front end
code how to write back end code
everything under Under the Sun and it's
really it's it's unrealistic so just
proudly Proclaim yourself as a software
engineer put your experience above
everything else put don't put skills
that are just way out there you can take
