best place to live as SWE

so I'm in Seattle right now I've been
here for a couple of years and I want to
talk about why I think this is the best
place for software Engineers especially
for those with a family even if you
don't have one that's fine too I think
it's a really great place to live um
first we're going to talk about the
weather then we're going to talk about
um like the job market value uh of the
area and we're also going to talk about
things to do so if you're interested in
that kind of stuff stick around I moved
from Louisiana to here so the difference
is insane first of all I'm going to talk
about the weather here I think that the
talk about Seattle weather is really
dramatized because a lot of people say
that it's really rainy for example um
factually it rains less here than where
I used to live in Louisiana um it also
rains less here than in New York City
but people really associate with rain a
lot because of the overcast Skies so the
difference is that it rains every it
drizzles I guess relatively often U not
every single day or anything kind of
often but it is very common to have an
overcast sky where you have this like
thick layer of cloud in the sky that's
just covering the sky I don't know if
you've ever seen anything like this um
coming from Louisiana I wasn't really
really accustomed to seeing this kind of
like thick cloud cover it's like a gray
blanket on the sky but it's kind of
weird because you can still see
perfectly fine
um but it's just kind of dreary looking
I guess if if your perspective is one
that is uh glass half empty I would say
that it might not be a good fit for me I
I tend to be optimistic I even see like
dark days as potentially The Best Day
Ever secondly the amount of job listings
here is just comp compared to where I'm
from it's insane um I can show you here
uh Louisiana the entire state has only
this many
listings um compared to Great the
greater Seattle area there are a lot
more over
5,000 so that's pretty wild uh compared
to the tech hubs like the Bay Area I
mean the Bay
Area it has almost double of what
Seattle has but I I would say it's still
a respectable number and I wouldn't feel
as scared if I lost my job here has a a
state where the jobs are so
few uh also like New York City has a
small percentage higher than SE the
Seattle area but I think it's acceptable
for the value of where you're living
basically so that moves to my next uh
Point here the value of the area so you
can save like up to 50% of your housing
cost by living in Seattle versus like
New York City or the Bay Area you can
see here a house was sold last month in
San Francisco for this obscene amount of
money whenever uh Seattle you can get a
similar home for less than a million and
then uh yeah same story with New York
City it's pretty expensive especially if
you want to live in a desirable area and
I I think taking like 20 30% of a cut on
the amount of jobs is reasonable here uh
for a much cheaper place to live the
last one might be kind of like a
Counterpoint um if you're single then
you might want to live in New York City
to remediate that Seattle um I see a lot
of families here and I I can see why
it's a really really good place to raise
a
family um especially in like the
Suburban like metro area in the city is
fine too in some in certain locations
but I think it's a great place for kids
to live in like the suburb area urban
areas of Seattle it's because you're
pretty much close to everything um and
yeah you can just enjoy a lot of
different outdoor activities and kids
just have a lot of fun over here and
they get to see really great natural
wonders and things like that I can also
take out the trash without being
absolutely drenched afterwards uh in the
summer which I really particularly enjoy
that so yeah um if you agree let me know
