hold up don't throw your programming
books
I'm just challenging the pedestal that
books are put on these days when it
comes to learning programming
in my opinion programming books are
pretty garbage compared to all the other
materials you have online now your
disposal and when it comes to learning
programming this is especially true
check out this little skit I made to
prove my point
hey man what's up you got a minute yo
I'm not really doing anything just
making any comments online about
JavaScript oh cool cool so I mean just
for giggles let's make up the most trash
weight learning me me skill all right
that sounds pretty fun all right you
want to start though I don't really know
where to start
all right got it let's make it super
static so you have to literally buy a
new copy every time there's a new update
to anything that you're learning bro you
are starting out strong with that one
that's that's pretty trash how about oh
let's make it so that you have to
literally search the entire thing
manually to get any information and you
might even be just wasting your time
because you don't even know if it's in
the resource or not that would be so
pissed as I happen to me what if we made
it cost like 2 to 20 times more than any
other resources and in some cases it's
just repackaged free content that you
can probably find online are you evil I
can't even think of how it could get any
worse it's already easily outdated hard
to reference and expensive
I got it you ready let's make it super
heavy and impossible to carry around
with you

so if you came to the same conclusion
after hearing those points as I did my
me wondering to yourself why he's why
does everyone push these programming
books then it's pretty simple they want
money like if you buy a book for
someone's description for example down
in my description below they get a
commission for your your sale so that's
what's called an affiliate link and I
mean they get usually between like 5 to
10% I guess or whatever they sell in
their description which is cool because
content creators need to be supported to
intent but I mean I'm really just
kidding there I really don't think
people should push things they don't
believe in or use themselves i I've
never gone back to a programming book to
reference anything I just google it
online because I can just look at the
documentation and that's I think a much
better way of learning how to program
then going back to some obscure function
in a book that could be outdated like I
said earlier but the best takeaway from
this video I think is that you really
don't need to purchase anything to learn
how to program I think the best starting
point is free code camp you have this
body of work that you can reference in
the future if you come across the same
problems again so using this learning as
you go method you actually learn one of
the most important skills in programming
which is reading documentation but also
you get to learn how to actually reuse
code by going back to your old code and
basically not reusing it 100% but
repurposing it to whatever you need in
the future
