if there's anything to take away from
this video it's that feeling of
application after application
is a huge waste of your time especially
if you're self-taught
and have no degree
what's up guys welcome back and if
you're new to this channel this channel
is about coding switching your career
code and basically hacking your way into
the tech industry
let me get straight to the video because
i mean it's pretty outrageous right i've
applied over 300 jobs in the past
three four years since 2017
and it's just it just gets so
frustrating whenever you're wasting all
your time
filling out multiple applications for a
week
and then they just always end up being
rejections
and then you get these recruiters coming
flowing into your inbox
and just making it so easy to actually
land an interview because they just
shortlist you
so for my own records i keep this google
sheets document
kind of documenting my journey and of
all those
applications that i put in and none of
these
were from any of those applications i
did not get a single
callback from any job
from any job application that i have
ever filled out for software engineering
i have a plan and but still i've
gotten uh call backs and interviews from
from amazon
facebook goldman sachs tick tock
microsoft i mean i'll tell you about
that later
um q looks knock and my new job us
engineering which actually
nailed this one and i'm starting this at
the end of the month
and yeah i also documented the delete
code level too
um the amazon ones there were multiple
so it was easy
to medium facebook was medium
amazon easy to medium goldman sachs was
they were easy
and yeah i failed them because i suck if
there's
anything to take away from this video
it's that feeling of application after
application is a huge waste of your time
especially
if you're self-taught and have no degree
because without those things without a
degree you're probably going to be
screened out like i
was and i wasted a huge amount of time
300 applications at 15 minutes
apiece is over 75 hours of my life just
gone
complete waste because none of them got
back to me so as a self-taught developer
with no degree what would i recommend
versus uh filling out applications which
apparently
which obviously i'm not an advocate for
well from my experience the my best
results have come from linkedin
and youtube so i would really highly
recommend starting out as soon as
possible you know building out your
linkedin network
maybe um every now and then interacting
with some post or something
and just building your brand online it
really makes a huge difference
in the amount and the quality of
recruiters that contact you
as my linkedin network has grown my
youtube channel has grown i've gotten a
lot higher quality recruiters
contacting me basically every day
and i mean obviously it doesn't start
out that way
but if you keep at it for a few months
it just eventually becomes really
effortless and
you just get a lot of results from it so
it's definitely really really worth it
to build
on that right now maybe there's another
big thing out there that i'm not aware
of yet
like another professional network or
something and if i find one
i'll make another video on that one so
if you like this kind of content please
let me know by hitting that subscribe
that like button leave me a comment down
below
if you've had any cool experiences
interviewing
or if you if you think filling out
applications is actually worth it let me
know in the comment section down below
and that's codephoney out peace
